Life in the Joint

I had no idea this website existed until I read something about it on Twitter, but am really glad I found it. Prison Photography, run by a guy called Pete Brook, draws attention to mass incarceration via prison photos, and is now putting together a cross-country trek to collect and package photography from prisons throughout the U.S.

Some of the more haunting images I've been perusing come from Sye Williams and the Valley State Prison for Women ("The Four", above), Lori Waselchuk and Angola's Hospice program, and Bruce Jackson's photo stream from Texas Death Row.

You should visit each of these photographer's links and check out their work. Discussing corrections in the ivory tower is one thing; putting faces to the statistics is quite another.
