Enlightening Discourse

If you are up for reading an interesting debate on the humanities and their relevance (or lack thereof, depending on your perspective), check out Stanly Fish's column today, and the links to his previous column on this subject.

I don't necessarily agree with all of his assertions, and some seem downright silly ("Right now millions of TV viewers are acquiring [critical thinking skills] when they watch Chris Matthews or George Will or Cokie Roberts analyze the current political moment[...]"?!), but his contentions regarding the value of humanities departments, and those posted in comments in response to them, are certainly an interesting read.
